THE BRIDGE RESIDENCY & EXPERIENCE

IMMERSIVE DANCE RESIDENCY EXPLORING SAMBA, AFRO-CONTEMPORARY & FUNK

November 5-15, 2025 | Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Bridge is a transformative 10-day dance residency that explores the sacred meeting points where Afro-Contemporary, Samba, and Funk converge. More than a workshop series, this is an invitation to become a co-creator in discovering what connects these powerful dance languages at their roots.

  • Working alongside master choreographers Kellyn Rosa (Samba), Fábio Batista (Afro-Contemporary), and André Oliviera DB (Passinho/Funk), participants engage in 6 hours of daily training that seamlessly weaves between all three styles. Each day combines technical training with choreographic development, building toward a work-in-process presentation that emerges from your collective exploration.

Located at the prestigious Center of Choreography in Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, this residency also connects you with local Brazilian dancers, creating authentic cultural exchange and artistic collaboration.

    The Concept: Meeting Points

At the heart of this residency lies a profound exploration of connection—the drum as heartbeat, the sacred threads that bind these styles, and the historical pathways that have shaped their evolution. Through intensive daily practice, you’ll discover not just the techniques of each form, but the deeper currents that flow between them.

  • We seek 10 dedicated artists with dance experience who are ready to deepen their practice through collaboration and cultural immersion. You don’t need to be an advanced dancer or have been to Brazil before, but you do need curiosity, openness, and a genuine commitment to the creative process.

  • This isn’t about taking classes, it’s about building relationships and creating something entirely new. You’ll leave with deep integration in these dance forms, authentic connections with Brazilian artists, and the rare experience of having co-created work that bridges cultures and traditions.
